English Setter Training

English Setter Training

English Setters are one of the sweetest and gentlest dog breeds in existence. Their very calming disposition comes from their nature to please their master. English Setters like all dogs have different life cycles. A Setter will be considered a puppy up till age three in most cases. During this period they will chew, bite, and destroy anything they can get a hold of. As with most puppies they are constantly active and require a lot of attention.

Basic obedience training can be instituted while they are a puppy, but the uncontrollable energy of this animal is hard to stifle. The best time to train an English Setter is after they turn three years old. This is known as the adolescent or challenge stage of their life.

They are more patient and attentive at this point in their life cycle and this is the best time to establish the correct level of communication and training. Contrary to popular belief, it is during this stage and not the younger puppy stage when the most important training will take place.

The English Setter?s attention span gets longer as it gets older and is almost nonexistent in the youngest of Setters. At this stage they love walking and running and make great jogging partners. The more exercise they can get the better at this stage. During this time the English Setter will become a playful and loyal companion. With the right training your English setter will be a wonderful addition to your family.
