Crate Training English Setters

Crate training an English Setter will take a little bit of patients, a fair amount of effort, and some time, but it’s a great way to help make your English Setter understand what you are expecting from them. When you first bring your new puppy home, the crate is a great way to limit where it can be when you are not around to watch the pup inside the home, use this method to help your puppy understand the house rules. It is Important that the puppy leans rules, like what they are not allowed to chew on, and where the proper place is to relieve themselves.

Another good use of the crate is that, it is a safe and convenient way of getting your dog from one place to the next in the family car. You will also be able to use it if you are taking your dog somewhere that they will not be allowed to run free. If you take the time and use the patients that is needed to crate train your English Setter the right way, you will not only be keeping them safe, but also giving them a safe environment that they will choose to go to on their own to relax.

Your English Setter’s crate should only be large enough for your dog to stand up and turn around in. If your setter is still growing, choose a crate size that will accommodate its adult size. Block off the empty crate space so your setter can’t eliminate at one end of the crate and then retreat to the other.
